The field of Statistics is becoming more important in our world, although the pervasiveness of the discipline is practically invisible. Big data rule what Pandora and Netflix recommend that we listen to or watch. Advances in medical research are the result of conclusions drawn based on statistically designed clinical trials or mining massive data sets. Climate change predictions and even daily weather forecasts are based on statistical methods.
There is growing demand for highly skilled statisticians in the 21st Century, and the Department of Statistics at Rice University is producing the professionals who can take on these challenges and the new ones that will emerge.
Thank you for your interest in our work.
