The field of Statistics is one of the most important disciplines in our modern data-driven world. Big data rule what Pandora and Netflix recommend that we listen to or watch. Advances in medical research are the result of conclusions drawn from statistically designed clinical trials or mining massive data sets. Climate change predictions and financial forecasts are based on statistical methods.
There is growing demand for highly skilled statisticians in the 21st Century, and the Department of Statistics at Rice University is producing the professionals who can take on these challenges and the new ones that will emerge.
