It is an honor to join Rice University as Professor and Chair of the Department of Statistics. Our department has long been recognized for its strengths in Bayesian statistics, biostatistics and bioinformatics, probability and stochastic processes, nonparametrics, and graphical models, with applications such as finance, neuroscience, and the social sciences. We also continue to advance research at the frontiers of data science and AI.
Our work is closely aligned with the university’s momentous strategic plan in education and research, including efforts to advance sustainability and health innovation, and build thriving urban communities. At the same time, we remain deeply committed to excellent educational programs, including our undergraduate major and minor in statistics, the data science minor (D2K), our MS program, and our PhD program, including the joint Biostatistics PhD with MD Anderson.
I am grateful to Prof. Rudy Guerra for his six years of dedicated leadership, for guiding the department with excellence, and for his generous support during my transition. I look forward to working with our faculty, students, and partners to further elevate Statistics at Rice.
