We are thrilled to host the 2025 annual meeting of the ASA Statistics in Imaging Section at Rice University in Houston, TX.
Statistical Methods in Imaging (SMI) aims to bring together investigators from students to established researchers who are working on methods and applications in a diverse array of imaging science, including, but not limited to, biomedical imaging, digital pathology, single cell and spatial transcriptomics, satellite imaging, forensic imaging, astronomy, remote sensing, and materials science.

- Invited Session Proposals

The SMI 2025 organizing committee welcomes your submission of proposals for invited oral sessions. Each session consists of four speakers or three speakers and one discussant. To facilitate the organization of the parallel sessions, we ask that each session has an emphasis on either “Statistical Methods” or “Collaborative Case Study.”
“Statistical Methods” includes presentations that focus on new developments in statistical theory and methodologies, and in statistical learning.
“Collaborative Case Study” includes presentations that focus on the analyses of imaging data and the statistical challenges present in the analyses.

- Student Paper Competition

The student paper competition will feature two tracks: 1) Theory and Methods, and 2) Case Studies and Applications. Winners from each track will be invited to present their papers at a dedicated conference session. The first-place winner and runner-up in each track will receive cash prizes of $1,000 and $500, respectively. Applicants do not need to select a track, as the award committee will assign submissions to the appropriate track based on suitability.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the student paper competition, the student must satisfy the following criteria:
- Be a degree candidate at an accredited institute in any term during 2024 and 2025.
- Be the first author of the paper. The paper must not be published or accepted for publication at the time of submission.
- Be a current member of the ASA Statistics in Imaging Section.
- Be able to present the paper at SMI 2025.
Submission details
The deadline for submission to the student paper competition is March 29, 2025. Submission should be sent to
Rajarshi Guhaniyogi (rajguhaniyogi@tamu.edu) with Subject Line SMI 2025: Student Paper Competition, and the email should contain the following four attachments in PDF format:
- The applicant’s Curriculum Vitae.
- An unblinded version of the manuscript with no more than 26 pages,including the abstract, figures, tables, and references. The manuscript must be double-spaced with at least 11-point font size.
- A blinded version of the manuscript.
- A letter from a faculty member familiar with the student’s work. The faculty letter must include a verification of the applicant’s student status and, in the case of joint authorship, should indicate what is the contribution of the applicant to the paper.
- A cover letter indicating whether you are interested in contributing a manuscript on this work to the Special Issue of Statistics and Data Science in Imaging (SDSI).
