Rice graduate students win Distinguished Paper Awards from International Biometic Society

Students will formally receive their awards during the ENAR’s 2022 Spring Meeting, to be held in Houston in March.

Three graduate students in statistics (STAT) at Rice have won 2022 Distinguished Paper Awards from the International Biometrics Society’s Eastern North American Region (ENAR).

Huiming Lin, a fifth-year doctoral student, is advised by Meng Li, the Noah Harding Assistant Professor of STAT. Their paper is titled “A FDP-oriented FDR control approach by solving constrained sorted L1 optimization.”

Brian King, a fourth-year doctoral student, is advised by Dan Kowal, the Dobelman Family Assistant Professor of STAT. Their paper is titled “Warped Dynamic Linear Models for Time Series of Counts.”

Emily Wang, a fifth-year doctoral student, is advised by Marina Vannucci, the Noah Harding Professor of STAT. Their paper is titled “Bayesian Non-Homogeneous Hidden Markov Model with Variable Selection for Investigating Drivers of Seizure Risk Cycling.”

The students will formally receive their awards during the ENAR’s 2022 Spring Meeting, to be held in Houston March 27-30.
