Philip Ernst, associate professor of statistics at Rice University, has been promoted to full professor with tenure, effective July 1. He is among six faculty members in the George R. Brown School of Engineering to earn promotion.
Ernst earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in STAT from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2010 and 2014, respectively, and joined the Rice faculty in 2014. In 2018, he received the Tweedie New Researcher Award from the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, widely considered the highest honor for excellence in research for an early-career statistician. In that same year, he received the Young Investigator Award from the Mathematical Sciences Division of the Army Research Office. In 2020, he was named the inaugural winner of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences’ Don Gaver, Jr. Early Career Award for Excellence in Operations Research. His research interests include applied probability, operations research and statistical inference for stochastic processes.
